In Year 5, we work hard to create purposeful and memorable learning opportunities, developing our confidence, independence and resilience as learners and beyond. We create a supportive and welcoming environment, where children are encouraged to foster positive relationships with those around them. 

Our classroom is a happy, respectful and safe space, children are supported in asking questions, engaging in rich discussions and beginning to take more responsibility for their own learning journey, in preparation for their move into Year 6.

Home Learning

Spellings:

Children are taught 10 spelling words each Friday, to be tested the following Friday.

To find which spelling words the children will be tested on each week, please visit our UKS2 page.

Reading:

Children should be reading at least 3 times per week. Please log your child's reading on Boomreader. 

Times Tables Rock Stars:

Children are set 2x 10 minute sessions on TTRS per week. Please ensure your child is completing these sessions regularly to maintain their quick recall of multiplication facts. 

Class Updates

Autumn Update:

What a start to the year we have had! It has been lovely to start getting to know our class and I am so excited for the year ahead.

I have absolutely loved seeing the children's creative home learning for our History of Maya Empires. Thank you so much for your engagement at home, it's wonderful to see the children coming to school with so much enthusiasm and knowledge for what we are learning about.

So far, we have enjoyed learning about the planets and mapping them out on the playground in Science and we have enjoyed taste testing different types of chocolate in preparation for designing our own Maya chocolate bars in DT.

We have also just had our first inspiration day where children got to play a traditional Maya ballgame and design our own glyphs.

I can't believe how much we have done already and we have only been back 2 weeks!
