In Year 6, we work hard to create purposeful and memorable learning opportunities for all of our children and support them fully to develop their confidence, independence and resilience as learners and beyond. 

Children are encouraged to ask questions, engage in rich discussions and begin to take more responsibility for their own learning journey. Our learning environment promotes learning, positive relationships and helps children to be the best they can be! We really want the children to 'let their light SHINE.'

Home Learning

CGP Books - From Autumn 2:

In Year 6, the children are sent home with weekly pages from their CGP books (2 pages for Maths, 2 pages for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).

These books are to be returned on Wednesday so we can mark them in school with the children, with new pages being set on Friday.

Spellings:

Children are taught 10 spelling words each Friday, to be tested the following Friday.

Reading:

Children should be reading at least 3 times per week. Please log your child's reading on BoomReader. 

Times Tables Rock Stars:

Children are set 2x 10 minute sessions on TTRS per week. Please ensure your child is completing these sessions regularly to maintain their quick recall of multiplication facts.

Class Updates

Autumn 1 - September Update:

What a start to the year we have had! The children are settling into Year 6  incredibly well and have made a fantastic start to the Autumn term. Thank you so much for the wonderfully creative, detailed and engaging home-learning projects for History. It is amazing to see how captivated the children are by their learning. It is also fantastic to see them arriving at school each day so eager and enthusiastic to learn.

We have kickstarted our learning with lots of immersive, hands on, active learning. The children loved completing their taste test in DT, tasting and evaluating white chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and even 90% chocolate! Some of their facial expressions were priceless!

The children have fully immersed in our Space topic and enjoyed mapping out or solar system on the playground using chalk, string and themselves as human planets!

We have lots of exciting opportunities on the horizon, including Bike Ability, the pantomime, the UKS2 carol concert, and much more!
